There are series that pay tribute to the 1970s, and then there is In The Bag, which looks like it was found under a waterbed in Los Angeles next to a fake badge, a bottle of cheap cologne, and a deeply suspicious amount of body oil. Produced by Digital Playground, this retro detective comedy follows Davis, played by Elly Clutch, and DeSoto, played by Addison Vodka, two LAPD legends whose greatest professional skill appears to be turning every investigation into an HR catastrophe and a porn scandal. The music, clothing, colors, and general sleazy swagger are all beautifully locked into that seventies mood. Honestly, the opening feels so polished it almost plays like a high-end GTA cutscene, except here the mission objective is less solve the case and more please stop compromising evidence and fucking the suspects.

Summary

The setup is wonderfully stupid in the best possible way. Davis and DeSoto are in trouble again because they previously got too friendly with a suspect, who used the opportunity to escape. Their captain gives them one final chance to save their jobs, and the case is the murder of washed-up actress Gloria Van Der Vanity. The only witness is houseboy Reg Turner, played by Mike Ox, which means the investigation is already standing on suspiciously oiled ground. DeSoto takes over the interrogation part, and because this is porn, questioning the witness is done in a flexible manner.
The first scene starts right at the crime scene, with the body still nearby, which is both gross and darkly funny. Even better, the characters actually notice this and relocate, a small comic detail that gives the scene a much-needed wink. The sex itself is fairly standard: oral warm-up, vaginal intercourse in several familiar positions, and a facial finish. Nothing revolutionary happens, but it is cleanly shot, well-paced, and carried by the charm of the setup. Addison Vodka and Mike Ox make the scene easy to watch, and the moment they are caught by Elly Clutch gives the whole thing a proper sitcom-crime ending. Definitely a good cop bad cop routine, just on steroids.
The second episode shifts to a seedy motel after Davis receives an anonymous midnight tip. The informant turns out to be porn star Leaky Fontaine, played by Isiah Maxwell, complete with huge Afro and enough flirty confidence to make the detective forget basic procedure. Their scene has more personality than the first, mostly because the starstruck angle gives it a proper comic build. This scene offers fantastic positions performed by Elly Clutch. She even does a pretzel. The twist comes afterward, when Leaky appears connected to someone ominous, which finally makes the case feel like it may accidentally have a plot. The third episode continues directly from there, introduces more players, and brings in Willow Ryder for another scene. The fourth episode, however, is where the series properly cashes in, giving us a BGG threesome with Addison Vodka, Elly Clutch, and Isiah Maxwell, staged with strong chemistry and some genuinely impressive positioning. A must watch scene!

Verdict

In The Bag is one of those Digital Playground series where the story is dumb, but the production is too good for you to stay mad at it. The seventies atmosphere is excellent: music, costumes, lighting, locations, and that greasy crime-comedy mood all work beautifully together. The camera work is sharp, switching between perspectives smoothly, and the scenes, usually around 40 to 50 minutes, have enough room to breathe without feeling rushed. It is silly, stylish, sexy, and knowingly ridiculous – which, by Digital Playground standards, is basically a formal achievement.
